Massachusetts whitewater, Fall River

Berkshire county, Otis Reservoir to Farmington River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V     0.9 miles
This stretch of Fall River in Massachusetts is 0.9 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Pittsfield, as you can see on the road map further down. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Otis Reservoir to Farmington
River section is one of them. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The nature scenery of Massachusetts and the beautiful way the water current
moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Massachusetts is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This is an extremely short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general

area:
A short spree to Otis Falls is always worthwhile, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Otis Ridge is relatively near. The County Road Trail is a magnificent hiking trail right next door to Fall River, and why not go to The Pork Barrel also while you're here. This river has it all. There is a great hiking trail near Fall River called the Richard Trail, and you definitely must pop by Tolland State Forest since you're here. This is a popular place for people from East Otis, and York Lake is both glorious and pretty. No way I can stop, cause I'm havin' a glorious time here at Fall River.
