  The beautiful scenery of Berkshire/ Hampden County and the water flowing gracefully down Farmington River - West Branch beats anything. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Massachusetts you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The
    Upper New Boston section of Farmington River - West Branch in Massachusetts is 3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're
gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The starting point is not too far from Pittsfield, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The campgrounds here at Farmington River - West Branch are pretty good.  
You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.

Briefly about the general area:
York Lake is a great site; the friendly folks of East Otis like to hang out nearby. Places like Tolland State Forest are tremendous to stop by; everyone close by loves skiing at Otis Ridge. Lots of fun awaits you along this river. Going for a hike on the County Road Trail is always a good adventure. For the duration of the summertime at Farmington River - West Branch temperatures are regularly in the 80's.
