Massachusetts whitewater, Millers River

Worcester county, South Royalston to Athol section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     7 miles

Rode it today.... lost 5 canoes on it as it rained last night and transformed into Class IV rapids.... Luckily we rescued 1 canoe and all 12 people got safely off of the river. Says K Andrews

The put-in location is a short drive from Keene, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Massachusetts are often easier than in other states,
so better not forget that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. The South Royalston to Athol section of Millers River in Massachusetts is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section
by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Worcester County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds
nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more.

Briefly about the general area:
Going for a hike on the Marlboro Trail is always a good adventure; why not head up to Pine Ridge and strap some skis to your feet. Federation State Forest is a nice site, and during your trip here you'll meet some people from Athol for sure. Coming to this river is always a good idea.
