  The average Massachusetts whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. The put-in is not too far from Springfield, as you can see on the road map further down. The Halifax Vermont Gorge to Colrain section of North River is 7 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. Some
    people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance
because these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Halifax Vermont Gorge to Colrain section is one of them. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon.

State Park when you're here at North River is a delightful idea, and on a tremendous day it's a delightful idea to spend the day at Horse Race. A visit to North River wouldn’t be complete without a tour to close by Molly Stark State Park. Hiking is a popular thing to do around North River; Mount Olga Trail is a delightful local trail. If you want to hit the beach, Greenfield Beach is in close proximity, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Living Memorial Park is quite near. This is a popular site for people from Colrain, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Ghost Trail.
