  The starting location is a reasonable drive from Springfield, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There are a few other stretches in
    this river system that can be paddled as well. This is an extremely short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter,
around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The Along Route 9 to North Branch Westfield River stretch of Swift River in Massachusetts is 1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. The beautiful scenery of Massachusetts and the water flowing gracefully down Swift River attract people from near and far. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but  
if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
Swift River is near Gardner State Park which is a beautiful spot, and you can have a great hiking adventure along the Spring Trail. What would winter be without some skiing at Berkshire East, and Mohawk Trail State Forest is a wonderful place to stretch your legs a bit. This is a really good river. At Swift River you always meet someone from Goshen. Swift River ordinarily gets much rainfall. November is when you get the most rain here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
