  The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. The starting point is not too far from Pittsfield, as you can see on the road map further down. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the 3.5 miles West of Chester on Route 20 to Chester section is one of them.
    This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of Massachusetts and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The 3.5 miles West of Chester on Route 20 to Chester stretch of Walker Brook in Berkshire/ Hampden County is 3.5  
miles long and has been rated as a class IV section by American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
While you're here at Walker Brook you can take a hike along the Spring Trail, and pretty scenery and delightful skiing is what you get at Blandford. If the weather is great here at Walker Brook, you can go for a hike along the Richard Trail, and Walker Brook is not far at all from Chester. This river is a wonderful place to visit. Places like Chester-Blandford State Forest are good to have a look at; Tolland State Forest is a tremendous site. For the period of the warm months here at Walker Brook, high temperatures mostly reach the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
