  This stretch of Westfield River - North Branch in Hampshire/Hampden County is 6.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Massachusetts is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Great exercise
    and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Pittsfield, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
The natural beauty of Hampshire/Hampden County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon.  
The campgrounds here at Westfield River - North Branch are pretty good.

Briefly about the general area:
There are plenty of people from Cummington here at Westfield River - North Branch. Really perfect skiing awaits you at Berkshire East, and a journey to Mohawk Trail State Forest is a great idea. This is such a fun river. There are nice places to discover along the Spring Trail; going to Gardner State Park is a nice thing to do. Don't leave Westfield River - North Branch without first going for a hike along the Dunbar Brook Trail. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Westfield River - North Branch.
