  The scenic beauty of Hampshire / Hampden County and the water flowing gracefully down Westfield River - North Branch beats anything. The average Massachusetts whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a
    bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The put-in is not too far from Springfield, as you can see on the road map further down.
This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. This stretch of Westfield River - North Branch is 7.2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places.

Briefly about the general area:
Berkshire East has delightful slopes and a friendly
 
staff, and a trip to Gardner State Park when you're here is never a bad idea. If you're visiting Westfield River - North Branch from West Chesterfield, you won't be the only one. Chester-Blandford State Forest is a great location to visit on a delightful day, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Westfield River - North Branch; Richard Trail is a great local trail. There's great hiking along the Spring Trail. Summertime highs at Westfield River - North Branch frequently tend to be in the 70's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's; winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Westfield River - North Branch.
