CLASS II-III     7.5 miles
  The starting point is not too far from Pittsfield, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Westfield River - West Branch in Massachusetts is 7.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. The scenic beauty of Massachusetts and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip.
    Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Massachusetts is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to
one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.

Branch, you can go for a hike along the Spring Trail, and the snow is nice at Blandford. The Richard Trail is a tremendous hiking trail near Westfield River - West Branch, and Gardner State Park is a glorious place to go. This river has it all. The trees of Chester-Blanford State Forest are a good source of shade on hot summer days, and there are plenty of people from Chester here. A trip to Chester-Blandford State Forest invigorates the spirit. A great deal of rainfall falls at Westfield River - West Branch. The month with most of the rain is August while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
