The Petoskey stretch of Bear River in Emmet County is 1 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is very short so better bring some good walking shoes. There are a few other sections in this river system that   can be paddled as well. From a rainfall point of view Bear River is a relatively common spot. September is the wettest month with most rain, and February is when it's the driest. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Bear River. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's.
