The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. The Goldmine Road to Cty 550 stretch of Big Garlic River is 3.3 miles long and it is classified as a class III-V section by American Whitewater.     This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The beautiful scenery of Marquette County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There's camping available   near Big Garlic River. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Briefly about the general area: Enjoy a lazy day on the beach at Squaw Beach; if you like skiing, you're in luck; Marquette is rather near. During your journey to Big Garlic River you'll meet some people from Negaunee for sure. Don't leave Big Garlic River without first going for a hike along the Holyoke Trail. It's always nice to have a look at Little Garlic Falls. The annual precipitation here at Big Garlic River is about average. Most of the rain falls through September, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
