This stretch of Black River in Gogebic County is 6.7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. The nature scenery of Gogebic County and the water flowing gracefully down Black River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the
sections in this state are pretty easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of
paddling rivers. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The starting location is a short drive from Merrill, as you can see on the road map further down. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The beauty of the Gogebic Range
is a great plus for this river. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip.

Briefly about the general area:
