Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Michigan tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The wonderful Marquette County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream      make the trip here worthwhile. The Witbeck Rapids stretch of Michigamme River in Marquette County is 2.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Briefly about the general area: You're sure   to encounter some great folks from Channing here; Van Riper State Park is a fine place to stretch your legs a bit. From a rain point of view Michigamme River is a quite normal place. The month with most of the rain is June, and the driest of the months is February. Through the warmest time of the year at Michigamme River highs are ordinarily in the 70's, and the night is a little colder of course, commonly in the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Michigamme River plunge into the-10's.
