  The starting location is a short drive from Houghton, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Keweenaw County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The Logging Road to Lake Superior stretch of Montreal River is 13.8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I(IV) section. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Since you're on this
    site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other good spots for that around here. The campgrounds here at Montreal River are pretty good. This is one of a small number of
paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Michigan are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations  
you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
Bete Grise Bay is rather next to Montreal River, and spots like Fort Wilkins State Park are great to have a look at. Here at Montreal River you'll almost certainly meet some folks from Copper Harbor. For the duration of the warm days of summer at Montreal River temperatures are generally in the 70's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Highs through the winter are ordinarily in the 20's; night lows in the 0's for Montreal River. The yearly rainfall here at Montreal River is about average.
