  This section of Ontonagon River - Middle Branch is 25 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Michigan and the cool fresh water beats anything. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. There aren’t any
    hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. If
you're coming from Houghton it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time  
outdoors have people coming from far and near. The Highway 2 to Highway 45 section is one of many paddling sections in this river system.

If you're popping by Ontonagon River - Middle Branch from Bruce Crossing, you won't be the only one. Take a hike on the North Country National Scenic Trail, and a tour to Three Rapids will fill your spirit with great feelings. This river is so wonderful. Going to Ottawa National Forest in close proximity to Ontonagon River - Middle Branch is a delightful thing to do. The warmest time of the year at Ontonagon River - Middle Branch comes with high temperatures in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's.
