Michigan whitewater, Sturgeon River

Houghton county, Sturgeon Falls to road before Prickett Lk section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     4 miles
The wonderful Houghton County scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of Sturgeon River in Michigan is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Michigan are often more forgiving than in other states, so
you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come
because it is a very popular destination. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The starting location is a short drive from Houghton, as you can see on the road map further down. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for
more.
