  The average Michigan whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The scenic beauty of Dickinson County and the cool fresh water beats anything. The starting point is not too far from Marinette, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nearby
    hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time
in nature have people coming from far and near. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The Sturgeon Dam stretch of Sturgeon River in Michigan is 1.7 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV  
section by American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
Sturgeon River is a spot with many visitors from Loretto; everyone close by loves skiing at Norway Mountain. Sturgeon River gets a typical amount of annual rainfall. The wettest month of the year is usually September, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month is February. Summertime highs at Sturgeon River regularly tend to be in the 80's. Summer night lows descend down to the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are generally in the 20's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Sturgeon River temperatures drop to the 0's.
