The beautiful scenery of Michigan and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This is a very short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. You can pitch a tent or park your RV     at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Union River cabin to campground section is one of them. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Michigan are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. This stretch of Union River in Michigan is 1.3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV+ section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better   reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater paddling here in the Gogebic Range is a great experience. Briefly about the general area: During your spree to Union River you'll meet some folks from White Pine for sure. A tour to Porcupine Mountains State Park when you're here at Union River is a great idea; Union Bay is in the neighborhood and always glorious to go to. A river like this is too good to miss. Gotta ski! Porcupine Mountain is a good spot to do that. From a rainfall point of view Union River is a reasonably normal place. Of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
