The nature scenery of Michigan and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The average Michigan whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers in this state     are suitable for beginners. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: Squaw Beach is in the vicinity of Yellow Dog River if you're in a beach type of mood, and you can go for a hike on the Holyoke Trail. You'll meet a lot of people from Big Bay here. Yellow Dog River is a good spot of common rainfall. Through September this area sees the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. During the summer months here at Yellow Dog River, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 70's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 50's.
