  The wonderful Koochiching County scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. If you're coming from Bemidji it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of Big Fork in Koochiching County is 0.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V+ section of whitewater. The campgrounds here at Big Fork are pretty
    good. The Big Falls section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you've been
whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Minnesota you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This section is very short so better bring some good walking shoes. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in  
this general area you won't find many other paddling places.

Briefly about the general area:
Go for a hike on the Cutfoot Sioux Trail; if you're here you will meet lots of people from nearby Big Falls. Going for a hike on the Wisner Trail is always a pleasant adventure. A typical amount of rainfall falls here at Big Fork. June is when you get the most rain here; February on the other hand is the driest. Summer at Big Fork comes with high temperatures in the 70's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 10's; overnight lows at Big Fork all through the winter generally descend into the-20's.
