Says Jerry The Partridge Falls to Poplar Creek Road stretch of Pigeon River in Minnesota is 8.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable     drive from Houghton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of   rivers here are not for beginners. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The natural beauty of Cook County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. Grand Portage National Monument is a very pleasant place to check out close to Pigeon River, and Grand Portage State Park is a lovely place any time of year. This river is a wonderful place to visit. Pigeon River gets a typical amount of rain. September is the wettest month with most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
