  The wonderful Minnesota scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Stony River in Lake County is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are
    not easy. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other places. There's camping
available near Stony River. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.

Briefly about the general area:
People from Winton love to come to Stony River, and Superior National Forest is a nice
spot to stretch your legs a bit. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Stony River; Kelly Trail is a great local trail. Stony River is a good site of normal rain. The month with most of the rain is June, and the driest month is February. High temperatures at Stony River through the summer months are in the 70's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 10's while the cold winter nights at Stony River are in the-10's.
