CLASS II-IV 1.5 miles

The natural beauty of St. Louis County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. If you're coming from Duluth it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map |
further down. This section of Vermilion River is 1.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might have to settle
| for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other spots for that. The Eightmile Creek to Cty 24 section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. This is a somewhat short | |
|
section so better bring some good walking shoes.
Briefly about the general area: You're sure to come across some great people from Crane Lake here, and there is a good hiking trail close by called the Taconite
Trail. From a precipitation point of view Vermilion River is a rather typical location. The month of June is the wettest with most of the rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. Summertime highs at Vermilion
River regularly tend to be in the 70's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 40's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 10's; night lows in the-20's for Vermilion River.
