Missouri whitewater, Blue River

Jackson county, Blue Ridge Road to Red Bridge Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I(II)     4.4 miles
I have floated this river from well inside of Kansas all the way to Swope Park at 63rd St.  A very good river for the beginner.  At normal flow the only challenge is walking through the shallows.  This river is  good for canoes, kayaks, and rafts.  In a flood this river is very dangerous.  People have died trying to float this river in a flood and flash flooding is common.  Check the weather first and check with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
website to check the water level.  Flood waters usually take several days to subside.  Fishing is great upstream of highway 435.  Enjoy! Says Greg Burns

i agree with this at regular water. but on the other hand after
good rain this section, for the area, is the best around.class 2 to 3,4 easy.the senery is the best for the area when it comes to wildlife give that your only 5 minutes from the big city life Says brandon rosell

If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The put-in location
is a short drive from Kansas City, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Blue River in Missouri is 4.4 miles long and has been rated as a class I(II) section by American Whitewater. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Blue Ridge Road to Red Bridge Road section is one of them. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are not so many other good spots for that around here. The natural beauty of Jackson County and the water flowing gracefully down Blue River beats anything.
