The starting location is a short drive from Farmington, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Castor River in Missouri is 1.4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Missouri tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. A bit of exercise and just |
being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The wild scenery of the Ozarks is great. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.
| This is a very short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The natural beauty of Missouri and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing | |
|
to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Take a hike on the John J Audubon Trail, and lots of folks from
Marquand come here. Whohoo, so many cool things in one place! The Ozarks is so good!. High temperatures at Castor River all through the summer months are in the 80's; the nighttime is a little colder of course, mostly in
the 60's. Highs during the winter are mostly in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Castor River. Castor River gets a common amount of yearly rain.
