  The starting location is a reasonable drive from St. Louis, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you wonít get lost. The scenic beauty of Missouri and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Riverview Drive North St. Louis stretch of Mississippi River in St.
    Louis County is 1 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting a good workout and a chance
to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. This is an extremely short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has  
a pretty small number of paddling rivers.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't leave Mississippi River without first paying a visit to Chain of Rocks, and you'll meet a lot of folks from Madison here. At Mississippi River during the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. Highs all through the wintertime are frequently in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Mississippi River are in the 10's. Mississippi River gets a typical amount of rain. May is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is January.
