This stretch of St. Francis River is 55.4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I section of whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Farmington, as you can see on the road map further |
down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. There are plenty of other stretches in this river
| system that can be paddled as well. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at St. Francis River are pretty good. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so better bring your camping gear along. wonderful. The nature scenery of Madison Wayne County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
Briefly
about the general area: Go for a hike on the Johnson Natural Area Backpack Trail, and Stillhouse Spring is a magnificent local attraction. You'll beyond doubt wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the entertaining
things in the Ozarks. Places like Sam A. Baker State Park are great to go to; don't leave St. Francis River without first going for a hike along the Silver Mine Trail.
