The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater paddling here in the Ozarks is a great experience. Briefly about the general area: Elephant Rocks State Park is a great place to pop by, and Wallace Hollow is a fine spot to check out. A journey to Taum Sauk Mountain State Park rejuvenates the spirit, and there's fine hiking along the Taum Sauk Trail. This is such a great river. There are plenty of folks from Pilot Knob here at Stouts Creek, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Stouts Creek; Crane Lake Trail is a delightful local trail.
