This section of Taum Sauk Creek in Iron - Reynolds County is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Farmington, as you can see on the road map further down. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and just being     out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The beauty of the Ozarks is a great plus for this river. The average Missouri whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t   have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: Hiking along the Taum Sauk Trail is magnificent fun, and you'll meet a lot of people from Lesterville here. This spot, the Ozarks, has so much outdoors amusing stuff. A delightful place like Elephant Rocks State Park next to Taum Sauk Creek is too magnificent to leave out, and going for a hike along the Crane Lake Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. This river is so great. Don't leave Taum Sauk Creek without visiting Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park. Taum Sauk Creek sees pretty high levels of rain.
