CLASS II     61 miles
  The natural beauty of Montana and the cool fresh water have people coming here. This stretch of Boulder River is 61 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A stretch of this length does require some preparations,
    so better bring your camping gear along. The Bison Creek to Jefferson River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this
general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. The put-in location is a short drive from Helena, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Montana you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners.

Briefly about the general area:
The Fetters Trail is a wonderful hiking
 
trail in the neighborhood of Boulder River; Hay Canyon is a splendid location to spend some time. If the weather is good here at Boulder River, you can go for a hike along the Upper Whitetail Park Trail, and during your tour here you'll meet some people from Boulder for sure. This is such a wonderful river. At Boulder River all through the summertime months highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's; night lows during the wintertime for Boulder River tend to be in the 0's. Boulder River gets very little rain.
