If you're coming from Missoula it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. | that around here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. The Alberton Put In to Fish Creek section of Clark Fork is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. | |

And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. When you're paddling down a Bitterroot Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
Briefly about the general area: You'll meet a lot of
people from Alberton here, and going for a hike on the Tepee Ridge Trail is always a great adventure. All year is a great time in the Bitterroot Range if you fancy the outdoors. A good place in the neighborhood of Clark
Fork is Sawmill Gulch, and close by you hit upon the Josephine Creek Trail which is a great hiking trail. This river is so good. Summer at Clark Fork arrives with high temperatures in the 80's.
