  The Yellowstone National Park to West Fork Gallatin section of Gallatin River in Montana is 20 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Montana is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. The wonderful Gallatin County scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Getting
    your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Bozeman, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further
down the page. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Yellowstone National Park to West Fork Gallatin section is just one of them. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The campgrounds  
here at Gallatin River are pretty good.

Briefly about the general area:
On a fine day at Gallatin River you can take a hike along the Divide Trail, and during your spree here you'll meet some people from Big Sky for sure. The Skyline Trail is a splendid hiking trail close to Gallatin River. It is very dried up here at Gallatin River commonly. Most of the rain falls through May, and February is when it's the driest. All through the warm days of summer here at Gallatin River, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's.
