  The Madison Dam to Route 84 section of Madison River in Madison County is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Montana are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The put-in is not too far from Bozeman, as you can see on the road map further down. Not too many
    hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you have the time you can make this a two day
trip, so pack your sleeping bag. The nature scenery of Madison County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other spots. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Madison Dam to Route 84 section is one of them.

The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's; night lows in the 10's for Madison River. Around Madison River you don’t get a lot of precipitation. During May this area sees the most rain while February is regularly the driest month.
