  The put-in location is a short drive from Billings, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Clarks Fork Yellowstone River to Billings MT stretch of Yellowstone River in Montana is 22 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Yellowstone County and the water flowing gracefully down Yellowstone River are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
    For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your sleeping bag. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep  
in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy.

Briefly about the general area:
People from Billings love to come to Yellowstone River, and going for a hike along the John Dunn Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. Yellowstone River is near Lake Elmo State Park which is a gorgeous spot. Brockway Coulee is a good place to take a look at right next door to Yellowstone River; Pictograph Caves State Park is a fine location to stretch your legs a bit. Yellowstone River is a location that is relatively dry ordinarily. Most of the rain falls throughout May; the driest month of the year is February.
