  The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Nevada are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. The starting location is a short drive from Reno-Sparks, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Nevada scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract
    people from near and far. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Truckee River doesn't
have a lot of paddling sections, the East Reno/Sparks to Pyramid Lake section is the only one. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch of Truckee River in Washoe/Storey County is -blank- miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II(III) section.

Briefly about the general area:
 
Truckee River is near Tom Anderson Canyon which is absolutely worth visiting; if you're here you will meet lots of folks from close by Nixon. Truckee River gets very little rain. Of all the months in a year January is the one with the most rain, and July is when it's the driest. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Truckee River with overnight lows in the 60's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's; overnight lows in the 20's for Truckee River.
