  The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The put-in is not too far from Berlin, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Ammonoosuc River in Coos County is 7.3 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. Getting some good exercise and
    just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The wonderful Coos County scenery and the
sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Pierce bridge to New Hampshire 116 section is just one of many. The White Mountains scenery is wonderful. There are campgrounds quite  
near the river where you can camp.

Briefly about the general area:
Go for a hike on the Garfield Trail, and you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Cannon Mountain if you're here. So many amusing things to do in the White Mountains, not enough time. A magnificent location like Franconia Notch State Park near Ammonoosuc River is too splendid to leave out, and going for a hike on the Gale River Trail is always a perfect adventure. This river is so great. You're sure to run into some wonderful people from Bethlehem here. Through the summertime months here at Ammonoosuc River, high temperatures generally reach the 70's.
