CLASS II 2.4 miles
|
| |
The Pontook stretch of Androscoggin River is 2.4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. The nature scenery of Coos County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The campgrounds here at Androscoggin River are pretty good. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New Hampshire are often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that the rivers in |
this state are less manageable. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end
| up sleeping in your car. The beautiful White Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Berlin, as you can see on | |

the road map further down.
Briefly about the general area: Take a hike on the Bog Dam Trail; there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Balsams Wilderness. If you want a wonderful time in the great
