The Vilas Pool to Alstead section of Cold River is 0.7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This is an extremely short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling   muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Glovers Ledge is an interesting thing to observe since you're here at Cold River. There's good hiking along the Futures Trail, and if you're dropping by from South Acworth, you won't be the only one. A river like this is too good to miss. Going to Wilgus State Park right next door to Cold River is a good thing to do. For the period of the warmest time of the year, highs generally are in the 80's at Cold River. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's.
