If you're coming from Keene it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Contoocook River - North Branch in Hillsborough County is 6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater. This stretch is mid length, it's good     length for a morning trip. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Route 9 and 123 to Hillsboro Fire Station section is just one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater   rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Briefly about the general area: While you're here at Contoocook River - North Branch you can take a hike along the Monadnock Sunapee Trail; nothing beats kicking back at Picnickers Beach. Pillsbury State Park is a great place to have a look at, and if you're looking for a beach close by we recommend Campers Beach.
