The starting location is a short drive from Laconia, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful New Hampshire scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. There's camping available near Ellis River.     When you're paddling down a White Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. The Route 16 to Jackson Golf Course section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Whitewater rafting   and kayaking in New Hampshire is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Briefly about the general area: Going to White Mountain National Forest near Ellis River is a great thing to do, and going for a hike on the Wildcat Cutoff is always a nice adventure. And if that's not enough there's lots more entertaining stuff to do in the White Mountains. A trip to Mt. Washington State Park when you're here at Ellis River is never a bad idea, and there are delightful places to look at along the Langlaup Trail.
