New Hampshire whitewater, Israel River Coos county, Riverton to Lancaster section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II     4.7 miles   The Riverton to Lancaster stretch of Israel River is 4.7 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Berlin, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are many good hotels to choose from, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good     rivers for that around here. The average New Hampshire whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The White Mountains scenery is wonderful. The scenic beauty of Coos County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. A bit of exercise and   just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Briefly about the general area: The Mount Cabot Trail is a great hiking trail in close proximity to Israel River, and Maidstone State Park is a splendid place to check out. Having a splendid time in the White Mountains is painless. The friendly folks of Lancaster like to hang out close by, and you can never get enough of the wonderful skiing at Bretton Woods. This river is a great place to visit. If the weather is good here at Israel River, you can go for a hike along the Black Brook Trail. Israel River is a good site of normal rainfall.
