New Hampshire whitewater, Little Suncook Merrimack county, Northwood to Gossville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV     3.1 miles   The nature scenery of Merrimack County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New Hampshire you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. This stretch of Little Suncook in New Hampshire is 3.1 miles     long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV section. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Northwood to Gossville section is one of them. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. If you're coming from Laconia it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: There is a perfect hiking trail near Little Suncook called   the Campground Trail; magnificent skiing awaits you at McIntyre. Going for a hike on the Catamount Trail is always a delightful adventure, and while here here do stop at close by Alton Town Beach. This is such a wonderful river. A visit to Pawtuckaway State Park revitalizes the spirit; there are plenty of people from Epsom here. Put some time aside to spend at Steeles Falls if you're here at Little Suncook. Bear Brook State Park is a nice place. At Little Suncook during the long summer days highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Little Suncook are in the 0's.
