New Hampshire whitewater, Souhegan River

Hillsborough county, NH Route 101 Bridge to Wilton section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III     1.25 miles
The wonderful New Hampshire scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The NH Route 101 Bridge to Wilton stretch of Souhegan River in New Hampshire is 1.25 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. The average New Hampshire whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here
are not as easy as elsewhere. The starting point is not too far from Manchester-Nashua, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both,
doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're
all set.

Briefly about the general area:
You'll meet a lot of folks from Wilton here, and a spree here wouldn’t be complete without a trip to close by Willard Brook State Forest. The Mitchell Hill Road is a good hiking trail close to Souhegan River; a nice beach close by is Picnickers Beach. A river like this is too good to miss. Don't leave Souhegan River without going to Miller State Park; Campers Beach is a beach nearby that you can have a look at. Near Souhegan River you discover the Old Country Road which is a good hiking trail, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Crotched Mountain.
