New Hampshire whitewater, Sugar River

Sullivan county, North Newport to Route 103 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     2.8 miles
The put-in location is a short drive from Lebanon, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The North Newport
to Route 103 stretch of Sugar River is 2.8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.
Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The beautiful scenery of New Hampshire and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far.
