CLASS I-II+(III)     6 miles
  This stretch of Suncook River in Merrimack County is 6 miles long and is a class I-II+(III) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of New Hampshire and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not
    easy. There arenít any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater
rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The put-in is not too far from Laconia, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Pittsfield to North Chichester stretch is one of them. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.  
Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here.

Briefly about the general area:
Here at Suncook River you'll probably meet some folks from Pittsfield; you should without doubt visit striking Alton Town Beach since you're here. Pawtuckaway State Park is a pretty place any time of year, and do take a hike on the Catamount Trail. This river is so wonderful. Gunstock is a splendid local ski area, and Suncook River is right by the Onemile Trail. Bear Brook State Park is a good site to stretch your legs a bit. A common amount of rainfall falls here at Suncook River.
