New Hampshire whitewater, Swift River

Carroll Grafton county, Bear Notch Road to Rocky Gorge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-III     4 miles
If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The wonderful Carroll/ Grafton County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit
away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have people
coming from far and near. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Bear Notch Road to Rocky Gorge stretch is just one of them. This stretch of Swift River is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. If you're coming from Laconia it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The river winds through the White Mountains and you
get great scenery. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. The campgrounds here at Swift River are pretty good.

Briefly about the general area:
The slopes of Waterville Valley are so inviting nobody can resist, and lots of folks from Waterville Valley come here. So much fun stuff in the White Mountains, just striking. Hiking along the Sawyer Run Trail is nice fun, and locations like Crawford Notch State Park are wonderful to stop by. This is such a great river. Have a great hiking adventure along the Swift River Trail.
