New Hampshire whitewater, Swift River

Carroll county, Rocky Gorge to Lower Falls section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     2.6 miles
The natural beauty of Carroll County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The starting location is a short drive from Laconia, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The White Mountains scenery is wonderful. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you
might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Rocky Gorge to Lower Falls
stretch is just one of many. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The Rocky Gorge to Lower Falls section of Swift River in New Hampshire is 2.6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New Hampshire are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not
safe for beginners. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks.

Briefly about the general area:
What would winter be without some skiing at Attitash Bear Peak, and of course, everyone loves White Lake State Park. And that's not everything you can do here in the White Mountains. At Swift River you always meet someone from Bartlett, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Rob Brook Trail. This river has it all. Crawford Notch State Park is a magnificent place; on a delightful day you can take a hike along the Brunel Trail. Swift River gets a typical amount of yearly precipitation.
