Somerset Hunterdon county, Rt 512 at Pottersville to confluence with North Branch of Raritan section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     12 miles

May 23rd 2009
Just got off the river in an inflatable, with a very shallow draft. Not too much water, had to get out and walk in river often. Says Fred Soffa

The Rt 512 at Pottersville to confluence with North Branch of Raritan stretch of Lamington River in New Jersey is 12 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. If you're coming from Trenton-Ewing it's not a long drive at all to the
put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New Jersey is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that
a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. The nature scenery of New Jersey and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of
spots for that. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
There are plenty of folks from Pottersville here at Lamington River. All the water falling down from the sky makes Lamington River a wet site. Most of the rain falls all through August, and the driest month of the year is February. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Lamington River.
