  The nature scenery of New Jersey and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New Jersey are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This section of Rockaway River in New Jersey is 0.7 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. A good workout and just hanging
    out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either
way this is an area with plenty of places for that. The starting location is a reasonable drive from New York-Newark-Edison, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is a very short section so better bring some good walking shoes. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.

general area:
People from Boonton love to come to Rockaway River. All through the summer at Rockaway River highs are regularly in the 80's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the duration of the winter the highs are regularly in the 30's; nighttime lows through the winter for Rockaway River tend to be in the 10's. Rockaway River sees pretty high levels of rainfall. August is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is February.
