New Mexico whitewater, Rio de los Pinos

Osier Colorado to Campground Close to San Miguel New Mexico section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V+     8.8 miles
The beautiful scenery of New Mexico and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting point is not too far from Espanola, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Osier Colorado to Campground Close to San Miguel New Mexico stretch of Rio de los Pinos in -blank- County is 8.8 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section
by American Whitewater. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. You might have to settle
for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The San Juan and Jemez Mountains scenery is wonderful. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New Mexico are often more forgiving than in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers
in this state are good for beginners. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.

Briefly about the general area:
Good hiking is available along the Posos Trail, and during your visit here you'll meet some people from Antonito for sure. So much fun stuff to do in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains, not enough time. Don't leave Rio de los Pinos without first going for a hike along the Spruce Hole Trail. A splendid place right next door to Rio de los Pinos is Toltec Gorge.
